Devansh Purohit, September 2, 2024

Want to know the Total International Cricket Stadiums in India? Let’s find out!

India is one of the world’s most dominating cricketing nations with some of the most skilled cricketers on its team.

Therefore, it is only natural for us to have some of the finest cricket stadiums in the world where we host international legends of the sport.

Before moving on to the figures, let us take a look at some cricket history.

The first mention of cricket in India goes way back to the 18th century with the arrival of the British East India Company.

Apparently, the Brits brought an English game only for it to be completely overtaken by Indians in a couple of ‘centuries’!

Considering India’s extraordinary passion for cricket, a political psychologist and theoretical critic of European Colonialism, Ashish Nandy famously said that “Cricket is an Indian game accidentally discovered by the British”

What is an International Cricket Stadium?

An international cricket stadium refers to a cricket ground or venue that meets the standards set by the ICC  and is approved to host international cricket matches.

These matches include Test matches, ODIs, and T20Is, where teams representing different countries compete against each other.

To be classified as an international cricket stadium, a cricket venue in India typically needs to meet certain criteria, including:

  1. Standard Field Dimensions
  2. Adequate Facilities for cricketers and the audience
  3. Required Minimum Seating Capacity
  4. Broadcasting Infrastructure
  5. Safety and Security for players and spectators
  6. ICC Approval

Stadiums that meet these criteria are international cricket stadiums. They act as venues for matches involving national teams from different countries, such as during the ICC ODI Cricket World Cup, Twenty20 World Cup, and other international tournaments.
